What's in a name?
We struggled for a long time to find a good name for our baby. I know some people have names picked out for years before they have kids, but neither of us were like that. One of our problems is that we both make very strong associations between people we meet and their names, so if a name reminded us of someone we don't like, we tossed it out. Working at a University, we have both met a lot of unpleasant people so we tossed a lot of names that might have otherwise been good. We were also trying to find a name that was not too common, or too unusual at the same time. We didn't want anything that had too many dirty nicknames, and we didn't want the initials to spell anything funny forwards or backwards. These are a lot of rules, so it took us a long time to find a name we both liked that fit the criteria. We just kind of stumbled on Colin after looking through a bunch of name books, getting lists from friends, and way too many conversations on the topic. When we came upon Colin, we both liked it, and couldn't find anything wrong with it, so we just kind of sat on it for a while to see if we still liked it. Next we had to find a middle name that sounded good with both Colin, and Flores. I felt a little weird about giving him my name as a middle name, but it flows very well with Colin, and it sounds good with Flores too. It is also kind of neat to have him have my name. Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions, and sorry for the constant frustration of us shooting down your ideas.
