Although we were unlucky in losing our digital camera with pics of Colin and his cake eating, we were lucky that John Forrest had taken some really good pictures of it. Thanks to JoFo for sending them to us!

Colin got a lot of frosting in his hair- so he smelled even sweeter than usual for a little bit. He seemed to enjoy it all though. Hopefully the coming year will be as fun as the first!

Birthday of Firsts

Although Colin's actual birthday was on Thursday, we waited until Sunday to have his party so our friends could come. He seemed to really enjoy his cake, although at first he mostly just squished it all between his fingers. Once he got the hang of it, he ate a lot of cake. To let him work of some of his energy, we took him to the mall to play in the play area they have. Unfortunately, Colin fell off of his favorite red car toy and seemed pretty hurt. We took him to urgent care- his first visit. We had to drive all the way to Tacoma- but Colin was quite the trooper. He only cries when he tries to crawl on it, so he hasn't been moving around much. In other news, our digital camera has moved on to new owners who are thieves. Last we had it, it was at the mall. Now someone else has it- we figure that they will feel really bad when they look at the pictures on it and realize that they stole the camera that contained pictures of someone's first birthday. Seriously bad karma. Anyway, John Forrest took digi pics, so once he sends them our way, we will happily post the pictures of cake in the hair and frosting on the face. Until then, whoever has our camera- you suck.

We took Colin to the zoo for his birthday, and here is what he looked like after his bath tonight. It has been a pretty incredible year and it went by so fast. We will have cake for him this weekend, and put up pictures of the mess.

It is so crazy how much he has grown. That is the same towel as in the picture below.

so little

Tomorrow is Colin's first birthday. This is a pics from his first bath after we brought him home. I guess he is about a week old in this picture, but it is one of the first where he isn't all bundled up. He was still pretty yellow at this time, but it was already starting to fade. It has been a long and wonderful year. Colin is a great baby, and we have been very lucky that he has been so healthy and so happy. He has grown and changed so much in what seems like such a short time. I imagine I'll be saying that every year from now on. Watching his personality develop and being there for all the cute moments has been amazing. At the same time it is hard to look back and remember small he seemed, and how sweet he looked in his cozy little outfits and hats asleep in our arms. Now we have to strap hats to his head to get him to keep them on, and he keeps threatening to start walking. It is all part of the adventure though and as he keeps growing so do we. We are doing a little part for Colin this weekend, and we'll be sure to get lots of pics of the cake eating. But tomorrow is Colin's real birthday, Christine's real mother's day, and we have survived our first year as parents.

Camping

We went down to Portland this weekend and camped about a half hour outside of town. We brought an air matress so it was kind of cheating, but Colin had fun on his first camping trip. It is still rainy up here in the NW so the ground was still fairly wet. Colin kept crawling out of the tent after me, but when he got out side he would just scrunch the mud in his hands and then stare at the mess he made. It was a little cold and wet outside so we ate our smores cold and Colin did his best to steal our graham crackers.

Colin has been scrathing at his ears and pulling his hair the last couple of days becasue he has gotten pretty shaggy. When he fell asleep tonight we gave him his first trim... not a full haircut because he hasn't grown up so much yet that we need to do such things (because I say so). Just a little off the ears. Hopefully when he wakes up he'll feel like a lighter and freer baby.

Kite Flier

Today we took Colin to fly his first kite at the park. It was another beautiful day and perfect for kite flying. Colin was really into it. He kept watching the kite and playing with the string. An older kid about 6 or 7 came over and asked to fly the kite for a bit. Colin was already bored with it so we let him. He just sort of ran around with the kite flapping behind him. He dragged it on the ground a bit, but Colin enjoyed watching him run around. He is really into older kids. Anyway, it was a great afternoon of kite flying- a good story for when Colin gets older.

Updates at last
We got a new computer a couple of months ago, and one of the things it was supposed to do was make it easier for us to do picture updates on Colin. About that time we also stopped taking some many pictures, and them we moved, etc., etc...

Enough with the excuses. This is an updated page (that should work in all browsers) with a flickr photostram so you can always se the most recent pics of Colin, and click through on the pics to see more. flickr allows us easy web posting from home, and it automatically adds the most recent pics to this page. I will be archiving the old photopage shortly and those links will become part of this main page. My new goal is to be MUCH better about postin gand updating. We have been feeling a little out of touch lately, and I figure one way to fix that is to let you know what is going on with us. We hope you are all well, and we hope to do a better job of keeping in touch with our friends and family.
